Over the years we have had a number of different customers ask us if our Number 1 turned baluster is called this because it is our best seller. The simple answer is no, but the reason behind it has a story to it.

It all started back in the late 1990's when we visited a stair building business in Melbourne. We asked the owner of the business if we could perhaps quote him on his range of turned balusters that he used on stairs that he made. (In the late 1990's there were no metal balusters, stainless wire cable or glass; it was all timber !)

The design he gave us to quote on was what he called his Number 1 baluster. He also had a number 2, 3, 4 and 5; but it was the number 1 style that he sold the most of, so this is what he wanted us to quote.

We knew we had to be competitive, so we came back with a very keen price; and to our great surprise we got an order straight away to make 500 of them in Pine. We drew the product up in our CAD software and decided to keep the name of the baluster as the Number 1. At the time we had no idea that 20 years later we would would still be calling this baluster by this name and that it would still be part of our range.

It is NOT our number 1 seller, but it is still a popular design for customers who want to produce a staircase balustrade using traditional turned balusters. We sell it in our online shop in both Pine and Victorian Ash.
