Custom Turned Table Columns

Custom wood turning jobs are unfortunately something we don't do a lot of these days due to an overall lack of demand; so when we do get a call for it, and there is a bit of volume involved, we normally jump at the opportunity to dust off some of our old wood turning lathes and return to our origins of how we began.

This job was a particularly challenging job due to both the large size of the pieces and also the timber they were produced in. Manufactured out of Victorian Ash (also known as Tasmanian Oak), this Australian hardwood timber is difficult to turn, as the density of the timber makes it quite brutal on tooling. As you can see by the photos below, we had to produce a centre column as well as a base that was going to form the underside of a table to be used in a restaurant.

The end result was very much liked by the customer, although we unfortunately didn't get to see photos of the finished product.
