    30mm Hardwood Dowel

    Manufacturing timber dowel use to be quite a challenge for us until we purchased a new machine a few years back. Before we got this machine it was difficult to accurately line up the cutters so that you ended up with a perfectly round dowel. With the new machine this is not an issue, and as a result we have been able to very quickly produce dowels in different sizes.

    A Blast From The 1950's

    You may not know this, but when HAMMERSMITH started back in 1946 we use to make Australiana souvenirs for tourist shops our of Mulga wood.

    So "what is Mulga wood ?" I hear you ask. Well Mulga wood is an Australian hardwood that is grown in the more arid areas of Australia. The timber is extremely hard and was used extensively by Aboriginals for the making of traditional hunting tools such as spears and boomerangs.

Here in Australia the most common timber used is Western Red Cedar, but we do occasionally get request for different timbers to be used for this purpose. This was the case recently where we had a customer who wanted to have a timber ceiling made out of American White Oak.
